The Healing Hive is currently not accepting individuals in urgent need of treatment; the waiting period for treatment is roughly two months.
What is professional counseling?
Professional counseling is when one or more individuals hire a mental health professional to help them explore distressing situations or experiences. Most people picture lying on a couch and crying a lot, but counseling doesn’t necessarily look that way. In my experience, most people don’t like lying on a couch that multiple strangers have sat on. Besides, we can get through difficult situations and experiences with laughter as well as tears.
What are the different types of mental health professionals?
Goodness, there are plenty. Counselors, clinical social workers, psychologists, and psychiatrists are some of the most common mental health professionals people turn to for counseling. The differences come down to each professional’s training. Counselors, social workers, and psychologists aren’t usually trained or licensed to prescribe any medication to you, but psychiatrists have the medical training required to do just that. Psychologists tend to focus more on behavioral interventions, and social workers have special knowledge on the larger “social systems” at play within individuals’ lives. Counselors, well we are more focused on the individual(s) in our office.
What does a mental health service provider designation mean?
Excellent question! In the state of TN, having a mental health service provider (MHSP) designation simply means that my license permits me to diagnose and treat disorders that interfere with an individual’s mental health. To be clear, I am not licensed to prescribe medication! I can diagnose and treat the prevalent disorders but if medication is needed, I will refer an individual to a properly licensed professional for medication management.
What kind of counseling can you offer?
I specialize in individual counseling, but I am also equipped to help couples. I have helped hundreds of people with a variety of concerns such as trauma, mood disorders, thought disorders, addictions, etc.
What types of therapies can you offer?
A lot of counselors have training in various counseling techniques. My personal favorites are Internal Family Systems (IFS) – Partswork Therapy, Eye-Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy, Emotions work, Solutions Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), and alternative interventions like art, music, physical fitness, gaming, etc. I like to focus on interventions that involve the body and its experiences throughout your healing journey.
Are your sessions in person or online?
I am happy to offer both options at my discretion for residents living in TN.
Do you accept insurance?
I am currently private pay only. However, I firmly believe in accessible mental health care for all and am looking into options to better serve those who may struggle to pay my full fee. Stay tuned for updates.
What kind of payments do you accept?
I accept cash, check, or credit card. I accept payment when you arrive for session just before we get started.
Do you charge to reserve an appointment with you?
No. However, I do have a cancellation policy which will compensate me for missed appointments. If you decide you want to make an appointment with me, I will require your credit card information to hold the appointment. Don't worry - I won't charge you unless the appointment was missed in a manner that violates the cancellation policy! Furthermore, you are welcomed to pay at the appointment with cash or check if you don't want to use the credit card on file.
Are you available for emergencies?
No. If you are having an emergency, I encourage you to reach out to appropriate emergency response agencies. You can find a list of resources on my resources page.
